Government
Advanced AV technology has long been used to aid governments with homeland security, surveillance, air and motor traffic monitoring, as well as with military applications. Government agencies also rely on both broadcast and production technologies for communications. AV plays a vital role in the federal and state judicial system, where videoconferencing allows for defendants to remain at the jail to enter their plea to the judge and electronic court reporting captures court proceedings.
Government information technology spending by the U.S. federal government alone reached $70 billion in 2009. INPUT, a research firm in Reston, VA, predicts that IT and AV spending will grow to $97.6 billion in fiscal year 2013. The slow but steady increase in funding opens the doors for AV technology to make a greater impact on our nation's health, safety and security.
